Cheruba Dhanaraj, PhD, LPC
Licensed Professional Counselor
I have 15 years of education, training, and professional experience providing counseling to individuals with marginalized identities, including but not limited to LBGTQIA+, racial/cultural minorities, religious minorities, immigrants, refugees, and women in India, the Middle East, Africa, and the United States.
I provide a safe, trusting environment where the client is respected, upheld as valuable, and significant. I holistically view individuals, considering their physical, psychological, social, and spiritual needs. I utilize an evidence-based, multiculturally mindful, integrative theoretical orientation in therapy, accounting for the individual’s family background, culture, and identities while using a strengths-based approach. I use motivational interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), mindfulness, and stages of change while also incorporating techniques to assess and improve the client’s thoughts, feelings, and behaviors in therapy.
I am a lifelong learner with degrees in business management, research, and counseling psychology and a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision from Western Michigan University, which is accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP).
I am an avid traveler and an Indian fusion food enthusiast.
*Services are provided under the supervision of Caroline Ray, LPC.
